If you are not directly aware of another person's circumstances, it's pretty crappy of you to assume they're lying to you. Oppression in the U.S. may not look the same as elsewhere in the world, but it is undoubtedly real. Also, just because you are not the object of oppression doesn't mean there is no oppression.
